Cavalaire-sur-Mer is one of the most family-loved destinations on the Côte d’Azur — and for good reason: a large beach with gentle slope, protected environment, activities for all ages, and a calm you no longer find in Saint-Tropez or Sainte-Maxime. Here’s our guide for well-organised family holidays.
Beaches for kids
The main beach of Cavalaire is probably the most family-friendly: 6 km of fine sand, very gentle slope, shallow water for several metres, supervised in season. Play areas and kids’ clubs are set up in summer.
Bonporteau, below Villa Bella Vista, is a more intimate beach but equally perfect for families: crystal-clear water, rocky seabed great for snorkelling (mask-and-snorkel to spot fish), no waves. The small size of the cove lets you keep an eye on the kids at all times.
Gigaro, 15 minutes by car, offers 3 km of fine sand and several paillotes for lunch without packing up.
Family activities
The coastal path: family-friendly walks, sometimes shaded, with sea-view lookouts. The Cavalaire → Bonporteau section (1 h one way) is accessible to kids from 5-6 years old.
Aquascope from the port: a glass-bottom boat to observe the seabed without diving — fascinating for kids 4 to 12 (1 h, ~€15/child).
Mini-golf on the seafront: classic but always effective for a late afternoon.
Cavalaire Flying Club: introductory ULM flight for older kids (from age 8 depending on aircraft) — spectacular view over the peninsula. A memorable souvenir.
Family cycling: Blue Bike rents kids’ bikes and trailers. The cycle path runs along the coast and lets you reach La Croix-Valmer safely.
Family-friendly restaurants
Tamaris Beach on the beach: kids’ menu, relaxed atmosphere, sand to play in nearby.
Le Bellini: the neighbourhood pizzeria, kid-welcoming, generous portions.
Les Rotisseurs de la Côte: simple meats, fries, family atmosphere.
All seafront restaurants have kids’ menus or accept “small portion” requests without issue.
The right apartment for a family
At Villa Bella Vista, several apartments are specifically designed for families:
- Dattier (29 m², 4 pers.) — T2 with a parents’ bedroom (Queen bed, sea view) and a kids’ bedroom with bunk beds. The winning combo for a family of 4.
- Figuier (32 m² + 50 m² terrace, 6 pers.) — our most generous, with a main bedroom opening onto the terrace + kids’ nook + sofa-bed in the living room. Ideal for a family of 4-5 or two friend families.
- Aloé and Bougainvillier (25 m², 5 pers.) — studios with 3 bunk beds, perfect for a family with 3 kids in “tribe” mode.
All apartments are air-conditioned, equipped with washing machine and dishwasher, with free WiFi and private parking. The sea-view terrace lets parents enjoy a quiet coffee while the kids play nearby.
The ideal daily rhythm
Morning: breakfast on the terrace with pastries from Boulangerie Léone. Bonporteau beach before it fills up (before 10 AM).
Midday: lunch at the apartment (equipped kitchen) or on the beach. Nap for the youngest.
Afternoon: activity (Aquascope, biking, mini-golf) or back to the beach when the sun is less intense.
Evening: shower, aperitivo on the terrace facing the sunset, dinner in or out.
Our tip
Avoid the first and last week of August if you want quiet — these are the absolute peak. June and September are perfect for families: still very mild weather, gentler prices, less crowded beaches, and kids can still enjoy the sea fully (24-25°C in September).
